VOCATIONAL TRAINING
Vocational training in Germany is apart from university studies the most important way to obtain a vocational qualification. Many young people and young adults attend a vocational training program after finishing school. Vocational training programs offer training for trade, technical, commercial and social professions.
There are two types of vocational training programs – the school-based vocational training and the dual vocational training. A dual vocational training program combines attending a vocational school with a practical traineeship at a training company while the school-based vocational training is conducted entirely at a vocational school.
The duration of the training depends on the chosen vocation, previous knowledge and graduation level and ranges from two to three and a half years.
